How to choose a suitable roller?
The different types of material that foam rollers are made from can cause much confusion, so here is a quick insight into the differences.
There are various types of foam roller materials on the market, and this item is made from PE – Polyethylene: When purchasing a PE foam roller you can either choose a ‘one piece’ construction single layer foam roller or dual-layer roller. Single layer will retain its shape for a much longer period than a 2pc construction. It is easy to tell the difference by simply looking at the end of the foam roller. If it has an ‘inner circle’ – so it looks like a foam roller within an outer part – it is made from a 2pc construction. However, 2pc dual-layer construction foam rollers are softer in nature and are suitable for beginners who have never used foam rollers for sports massage before.
- EVA – Ethylene Vinyl Acetate: EVA is an excellent shock absorbent material, very light weight, long lasting and hard wearing. This type of material is more expensive than EPP and PE, but is ideal for gyms and clinics where there is continued and long term use. It has a very slight ‘sponge’ feel to it which is ideal for people who do not want a hard/firm foam roller.
- EPP – Expanded Polypropylene. This is a new type of foam roller material on the market which looks like it is made from tightly molded polystyrene balls and has a smooth surface. They have a VERY FIRM consistency and have been designed for moderate to heavy use. They are ideal for people who require a very firm foam roller, and would be suitable in gyms and clinics.

Got the same blue PE 90cm roller here about 5 years ago. It was great but eventually needed to be replaced. This time I ordered a 45cm one as having much experience in rolling now even a short one can do the job that many pals thought only long one could do. This one is as good as the last one and I am sure it will hold up.

My PT recommended this to me and I bought the 45cm one in blue for rolling out my muscles as one of my self-care techniques. This roller works great! Good quality, lightweight, stands upright on its own for easy storing. Love the color; looks just like the picture. Muscles feel amazing afterwards. I was concerned that the lower-density PE roller would feel like a pool noodle but this is is firm yet forgiving! Glad I went for it, and would buy again!

I use this roller for myofascial release as prescribed by my physical therapist. At start it felt very hard, but I got used to it a week later. Does it hurt? Sometimes. But myofascial release and massaging contracted or cramping muscles hurts. A lot sometimes. It also greatly relieves moderate chronic muscle pain. This foam roller is exactly the the one I used at my PT’s office. If you are looking for a foam roller to address stiff contracted muscles in order to reduce pain, increase range of motion, or improve posture, this roller fits the bill at a reasonable price. So far it has been quite durable. I’ve used it twice a day for a month on both a wood surface with a yoga mat and without a mat on concrete. It still looks and feels the same as the day I received it. Two things to consider. The surface is a bit slippery, so it works better on a grippy surface such as a yoga mat. It hardly weighs a thing (when it gets delivered the box feels empty), but it’s bulky, so I wouldn’t travel with it unless I was just tossing it the car to use at the gym.

It’s big but not too hard. It hurts in all the right places. I’ve had really bad pain between my shoulder blades for a while now, I can wedge the edge of this roller right between my blade and the spine and it feels soooo great. Using it horizontally on my back is feels great for lower and mid back pain. It’s a really good price for what you get, honestly you don’t need anything fancier than this. Too big for traveling. Very effective for the PT I need.

This small inexpensive cylinder is life changing. I weigh 200 lbs and suffer from excruciating lower back pain. I get professional deep tissue massages but can’t afford them DAILY, haha…. the foam roller rescues me using my own body weight. I sit on floor, I place it right behind me and slowly lie back on top of it and “bridge” my legs so I can roll on it for a couple minutes. It’s glorious. It’s not a substitute for physical therapy or massage… but’s it’s still awesome. Lightweight and sturdy. Worth every penny and then some!
